Frequently Asked Questions
Here are the answers to some common questions.
How does Archer Row Advisory compare to other investment advisers?
Archer Row Advisory can be different in four important respects.
First, with Archer Row Advisory, clients have their portfolios managed by someone with leading financial market expertise. We have worked at, and provided consulting services to, numerous financial institutions. In addition, we are voracious consumers of research and other sources of information to continually expand our knowledge.
Second, Archer Row Advisory considers and uses non-traditional investments, where appropriate*. These can include real estate, commodities, direct lending, private equity, and venture capital. Some advisors will not use alternative investments for clients because they consider it to be too much work. We will not hesitate to use them when we feel that it is in our clients’ best interest.
Third, Archer Row Advisory can substantially reduce the size and number of fees that its clients pay. Transaction commissions, mutual fund management expenses, and asset management fees can be substantially lower. In addition, unlike large broker-dealer firms, Archer Row Advisory does not receive any additional compensation for putting clients in specific types of investments. Please compare our fees to any other adviser you are considering.
Finally, Archer Row Advisory favors a diversified, long-term buy-and-hold investment strategy to defer capital gains taxes for its clients.
*Note: Non-traditional investments are not appropriate for all clients due to eligibility restrictions, lack of liquidity, risk, and other considerations.
How can I tell if an advisor is financial services expert?
Ask questions. All advisors should know the basics of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and ETFs.
An expert knows and can help clients decide whether to use other types of investments, including:
- Commodities, including precious metals;
- Credit investments beyond bonds and bond funds, including closed-end bond funds, bank loans, direct lending, and mezzanine lending;
- Real estate investment trusts, including office, retail, apartment, and mortgage REITs;
- Private real estate including funds (core, core+, opportunistic / special situations) and individual real estate projects;
- Opportunity Zone investing;
- Digital assets, including cryptocurrencies;
- Private equity including buyout, growth equity, and secondaries (and what vehicles are best for investing in this asset class); and
- Venture capital.
How is Archer Row Advisory compensated?
All clients are assessed an annual asset management fee. The fee ranges from 0.50-0.80%.
Archer Row Advisory receives no other form of compensation.
We do not accept “soft dollar” compensation, which we view as an unacceptable conflict of interest.
Is there a minimum to invest with Archer Row Advisory?
Our minimum to invest is $250,000.
Accounts less than $250,000 and greater than $100,000 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
